Secluded islands usually conjure up images of sand, sun and frolic but the following islands can evoke a different set of emotions. We look at weird, interesting, creepy to downright dangerous islands in the world. Svalbard Island, Norway: - Every year travelers come to this exceedingly remote island populated by thousands of polar bears. Watching these majestic creatures frolicking in their natural habitat is an amazing experience. While shooting the bears for sport is illegal, travelers are required to carry a gun with them to fend off a bear attack. Hashima Island, Japan: - Once home to numerous coal mines and a thriving population, Hashima Island now lies utterly deserted. Thousands of Japanese, Chinese and Korean workers toiled hard in the mines during WWII. When Japan shifted to petroleum as its primary energy source, the island was not deemed viable and deserted.
