Hotels are typically viewed as a place you stay for couple of days/ months and move on. However there are a few hotels which has managed to move away from their purely utilitarian functionality and serve their guests that something extra which makes the stay truly unforgettable. We were a little disappointed not find any hotels in India that fit the bill, a land so ancient and steeped in mystic should surely have an unusual hotel in its backyard. Anyway, here are some of the truly unique and unusual hotels from around the world.
Hotel Silken Puerta America, Madrid :- A slick and futuristic hotel designed by some of the best architects and designers from around the world. Blow Up Hall 5050, Poland :- The hotel is a classic example of an architecture that gracefully blends futurism and minimalism. Located in Poznan, the rooms in the hotel are beautifully designed and the guests are handed an iPhone when they check-in to unlock their doors.
Kolarbyn Eco Lodge, Sweden :- The Kolarbyn Eco Lodge intends to connect its guests to nature in a truly raw and unhinged manner. The beautiful huts and cabins are furnished with simple but cozy furniture and appliances. Karosta Prison, Latvia :- This one usually comes on top in most of lists and countdowns on the most amazing and unusual hotel. This former KGB prison was once famously described as 'hell on earth'. Nobody really knows the full extent of the atrocities and brutality that went on behind the walls of this former Soviet prison. The US TV Show, "Ghosthunters International" called it the site with the most paranormal activity they have encountered in the world. Sounds scary but some brave souls are willing to spend a night here.
